>> MERRY CHRISTMAS: For those of you who got a Julian calendar as a gift from your local bank this holiday season, we‚??d like to wish you a Merry Christmas. Today is Christmas Day for Orthodox Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus on Jan. 7. Why the different dates? It‚??s all about the calendar, son. The Julian calendar has been around since 45 B.C., and was the calendar du jour for hundreds of years. Thing is, it was off by a few days every couple years, so in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII came up with a new way of figuring things out, and the Gregorian calendar was born. Eastern Orthodox churches stayed with the Julian model, so their holidays come a few days later.

>> BIG GAME: Get ready football fans, tonight is the Game of the Century. It‚??s the Red-Algae Tinged Rising Sea Level vs. the Squabbling Celts in The Thesaurus Bowl ... OK, so that‚??s not exactly true. But it is the BCS National Championship game featuring two of college football‚??s most storied teams ‚?? Notre Dame and Alabama. The two schools have 25 national titles between them, with the Crimson Tide winning two of the last three. Who will win this time? Can‚??t say right now, but watch ESPN tonight at 8:30 to find out.

>> AND THE NOMINEES ARE: In the world of film awards, there are the American Film Institute Honors, the National Board of Review, the Golden Globes and the Lancaster Amish Times Film Awards (which has given its top honor to the movie ‚??Witness‚?Ě every year since 1985). And then, there are the big boys ‚?? The Academy Awards. This year, the Oscar nominations will be announced Thursday morning. Some of the favorites for the more prestigious awards this year are ‚??Lincoln,‚?Ě ‚??Zero Dark Thirty,‚?Ě ‚??Les Mis√©rables,‚?Ě and ‚??Argo.‚?Ě Hey, wait? Where‚??s ‚??Battleship?‚?Ě That should be there, right?

>> KNOW THE CODE: ‚?Ę‚?Ę‚?Ę‚?Ę‚??‚??‚?Ę‚??‚??‚?Ę -- ‚?Ę‚?Ę‚??‚??‚?Ę -- ‚?Ę‚?Ę‚??‚??-- -- -- ‚??‚?? Quick quiz: What just happened? A: The keyboard got stuck. B: Insanity finally set in. C: That was Morse Code. D: You never learned how to read. While ‚??B‚?Ě is a tempting answer, the correct response is ‚??C.‚?Ě That‚??s ‚??Hello‚?Ě in Morse Code. Knowing a little of old Samuel Morse‚??s invention might come in handy Friday, because it‚??s ‚??Know Your Name in Morse Code Day.‚?Ě The idea is to have people learn the way we communicated back in the day and keep the knowledge of the Code alive. I wonder if there‚??s an app for that.

>> HIGH STEPPING: One of Broadway‚??s most famous shows is headed our way this Friday. No, not that cowboy guy who plays guitar in his underwear. It‚??s the classic musical ‚??A Chorus Line,‚?Ě which has been wowing audiences on the Great White Way since 1975 -- the longest-running American Broadway musical in history. There will be singing. There will be dancing. There will be more dancing. And you can catch it all at the F.M. Kirby Center at 8 p.m. Friday.
