HANOVER TWP. - An alarm scared away three would-be burglars at Hanover Area's Memorial Elementary School early Friday morning, township police said.

Police said they were dispatched by Luzerne County 911 at 12:50 a.m. when a burglar alarm was activated. A passer-by reported seeing at least three young people running from the school on East Saint Marys Road toward Sans Souci Parkway.

Police said a wire or coat hanger was pushed between two double-front doors and pulled against the panic bars releasing the doors locks.

Police checked the school finding no one inside. The doors were not damaged.
