OLD FORGE – One man died in a Fallon Street house fire on Friday afternoon, while a second man reportedly was saved by police.
Televised reports identified the man who died as 60-year-old Joseph Casella. Old Forge Fire Chief Mark Tagliaterra said firefighters recovered an occupant of the single-family home at 534 Fallon St., but the man later died at a hospital.
Tagliaterra said the second floor of the home sustained fire damage and the first floor sustained smoke and water damage. He said the home was not habitable but appeared to be repairable.
Police did not have the names of the fire victim or survivor available and a message left with the Lackawanna County Coroner's Office answering service was not returned.

HANOVER TWP. – An alarm scared away three would-be burglars at Hanover Area's Memorial Elementary School early Friday morning, township police said.
Police said they were dispatched by Luzerne County 911 at 12:50 a.m. when a burglar alarm was activated. A passerby reported seeing at least three young people running from the school on East Saint Mary's Road toward the Sans Souci Parkway.
A wire or coat hanger was pushed between two double-front doors and pulled against the panic bars releasing the doors' locks, police said.
Police checked the school, finding no one inside. The doors were not damaged.
