United Sportsmen 11th annual coyote hunt will be held Friday-Sunday beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday. Weigh-in will be held at the United Sportsmen Clubhouse, 251 Waterton Road, Huntington Mills. Weigh-in times are Friday and Saturday 6-10 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A breakfast buffet will be served on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Grand prize will be $1,000, with $500 for second place. A $2 pool for the smallest coyote will be available, along with a gun raffle and 50/50 drawing.

District 9 of the Pennsylvania Trappers Association will hold the Northeast Regional Coyote Hunt on Feb. 1, 2 and 3. Weigh-in will be at the Triton Hose Co. on 116 West Tioga Street in Tunkhannock from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. A $2,000 grand prize will be awarded for the heaviest coyote, along with a $250 daily prize for the heaviest coyote each day. One hundred dollars will be awarded for all coyotes turned in during the hunt. Nescopeck State Park will hold its annual WinterFest celebration on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events include a guided bird walk, snowshoe loaners, children's games and ice fishing demos with new events being added to the schedule daily. So come on out to the park for a wintry day of fun and be sure to stop by the park office to tour the new exhibits while you're here. Don't forget to bring your sled or ice skates for more fun on your own.
More specific program information will be available closer to the date of the event, as some activities may be modified due to weather conditions.
The Red Rock Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold its annual hunting heritage banquet/auction Saturday, March 2, at The Appletree Terrace at Newberry Estates in Dallas. Doors open at 5 p.m. with raffles and open bar for soda and beer; cash bar for mixed drinks. There will be raffles such as the sportsman's raffle, ladies table and JAKES. Also there will be a silent auction and a live auction.
The cost for the banquet is $60 for a single ticket and $85 for a couple, which includes a one-year membership and meal. There is also a sponsor ticket price and an early bird special. Through the National Wild Turkey Federation, there has been an increase in the wild turkey populations, food plots and cover provided, scholarship programs and the Turkey Hunters Care Program. The Nanticoke Conservation Club will hold its annual ice fishing derby Saturday, Feb. 2, at Frances Slocum State Park. The derby runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a weigh-in from 12:30-1 p.m. Failure to weigh in by 1 p.m. will result in a disqualification. Cash prizes will be awarded for the heaviest fish in the following categories: bass, perch, trout, crappie, bluegill and pickerel. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Environmental Education building.
A free ice fishing clinic will also be held for all ages and skill levels.
Thin ice date for both events is Feb. 16.
