STATE COLLEGE — Penn State has removed the acting designation from the title of Athletic Director Dave Joyner.

The school on Monday also formally announced that Joyner would stay on until the end of President Rodney Erickson's term in 2014.

Both Erickson and Joyner assumed their posts as part of the fallout in the opening weeks of the child molestation scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky in November 2011.

Joyner had the title of acting athletic director until Monday. A school spokeswoman said the statement served to announce the title change. Erickson in September had already said that Joyner would remain on the job until the end of the president's tenure.

Joyner received his bachelor's degree in science from Penn State in 1972 and his medical doctorate from Penn State's College of Medicine in 1976, according to the university. He served residencies at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and in the World Football League. Joyner also was U.S. Team physician for the 1992 Olympic Winter Games.
