MADISON, N.J. — For the King's women's basketball team, the wait now begins.

The Lady Monarchs fell a game short of the Freedom Conference title for the second straight year, losing to top-seeded FDU-Florham 76-64 on Saturday in the league championship.

Like last season, King's will now hold out hope for an at-large invitation to the NCAA tournament when the 64-team bracket is unveiled on Monday.

A year ago, the Lady Monarchs lost to Misericordia in the title game before earning an at-large bid and reaching the Sweet 16.

This time around, the odds are a bit longer for the Lady Monarchs, who sit at 21-6 – one game behind their mark from last season.

With the win, FDU-Florham (24-3) claimed the Freedom Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, the first in program history.

And the Devils did it by getting King's out of rhythm.

The Lady Monarchs turned the ball over 13 times in the first half alone, matching their per-game average in the first 20 minutes. That helped FDU build an early lead and a 38-29 advantage by halftime.

King's would get no closer than five points in the second half as the Devils used a 12-0 run to put the game away. Freedom Conference Player of the Year Kyra Dayon scored a game-high 28 points and was named the tournament's MVP.

Playing in what could be their final game for King's, all four senior starters contributed on the stat sheet.

Celia Rader knocked down six threes for 18 points, matching the output of New Jersey native Lindsay Atchison, who added seven rebounds.

Katlin Michaels turned in another double-double with 11 points and 11 assists while Molly Dahl finished with six points and 11 rebounds.
