Rep. Cartwright sounds like predecessors

It came as no surprise to me that freshman representative Matt Cartwright would say that the budget sequester would throw Northeastern Pennsylvania right back to the days when Old King Coal abdicated his throne. It is ludicrous to think that shaving two and half percent off a federal budget that has grown over 50 percent in the last decade will lead to widespread hardship for the local populace. The fact of the matter is that unless a machete is taken to the federal budget this whole country will at some point resemble Greece.

Cartwright has some big shoes to fill if he ever wants to earn the reputation of some of his local predecessors like Dan Flood or Paul Kanjorski, but it won’t stop him from trying. Those two crooks and influence peddlers in two generations turned what was once the proudest and most industrious people that perhaps ever graced the face of the earth and reduced them to the one of the laziest, obese (both figuratively and literally), and utterly dependent hatchlings a state has ever seen. Unfortunately there are not enough of us that produce anymore and the hatchlings will always vote for the one that promises them the worm. Matt Cartwright knows this and knows if our country is able to survive long enough, that he too, may have some buildings named after him.

County tax system a move to progress

Let me first commend the council members who voted to consolidate the tax collection system in the county. I am hoping this is a first move to the future of regionalizing and consolidation of many types of services in cities towns and the county. In an age of technology, these alternatives and similar moves certainly make a great deal of sense. Regionalization in police, fire, sanitation public works and others are positive steps. You will find in progressive counties these ideas have already been adopted. For those politicians who can make these a reality please let your constituents move into the 21st century.
