(AP) Alex Rodriguez is not in the New York Yankees' lineup a day after striking out three times in his Bronx debut this season.

Manager Joe Girardi says it's just a day off for Rodriguez. Girardi might've played the slugger Saturday in a day game that is set to begin about 13 hours after the Yankees beat Detroit 4-3 in 10 innings.

A-Rod says he had difficulty controlling his emotions Friday night. Fans gave him a mixed welcome when he batted for the first time at Yankee Stadium since the AL championship series in October and since he appealed his 211-game doping suspension. But he was heartily booed after striking out.

The reception was better than he expected, and he says New York is the best city in the world.
