(AP) Times-Shamrock Communications says it will sell nine daily newspapers and alternative weeklies outside its core market in northeastern Pennsylvania.
CEO George Lynett Jr. says the papers have been "strong, profitable investments." But the head of the Scranton-based media conglomerate says the company is looking to focus on properties closer to home.
Times-Shamrock is seeking buyers for The Towanda Daily Review and Sunday Review and The Shamokin News-Item in Pennsylvania, The Petersburg (Va.) Progress-Index and The Virgin Islands Daily News.
The alternative weeklies for sale include the Baltimore City Paper, Orlando (Fla.) Weekly, San Antonio Current, Cleveland Scene and Detroit Metro Times.
The Times-Tribune of Scranton (http://bit.ly/19HUaYk) reports the sale will be handled by Montana newspaper brokerage Cribb, Greene & Associates.
