The Dallas girls soccer season came to a painful end with a 4-3 overtime loss to Hopewell in a state Class AA quarterfinal on Nov. 9 at Hollidaysburg.

Dallas goalie Sydney Emershaw was about to kick the ball away after coming up with it in a scramble in front when the referee ruled that the ball had already crossed the goal line for the game-winning goal.

The goal allowed Hopewell to finish off Dallas, which got big efforts from Talia Szatkowski and Emershaw.

Szatkowski scored a hat trick while Emershaw made 23 saves in a game that saw Hopewell more than double the Dallas shot total while getting all 14 of the game’s corner kicks.

The last Szatkowski goal, with less than eight minutes left, forced the overtime.

Dallas won the Wyoming Valley Conference title and finished second in District 2 to earn its state tournament berth.
