Meyers Speech and Debate Team kicks off season

The Meyers Speech and Debate Team kicked off its season at the Yale University High School Invitational on Sept. 20-22 and the Wilkes University Invitational on Oct. 26. More than 100 high school students from northeastern and central Pennsylvania competed at the Wilkes tournament. At Wilkes, Meyers recorded three individual first-place awards; three of the top four trophies in student congress; the top three spots in extemporaneous speaking; three of the five top positions in dramatic interpretation of literature; a fifth place trophy in public forum debate; and fourth place in original oratory. At Yale, Meyers did not receive any breaks at the national tournament in New Haven, Conn.
