The Wyoming Area Young Lady Warriors Basketball Camp is scheduled for July 29 to 31 and from Aug. 5 to 7 at the Wyoming Area gymnasium.


The camp wull run from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Cost is $60 per player and each player will receive a T-shirt. This is a girls-only camp. The camp is open to all girls in NEPA going into grades 3 through 8.


The camp is organized by Wyoming Area head coach Chad Lojewski. Additional instructors will be Alison Wolfgang, Mike Stefanik, Rich Musinski, Len Lojewski, Dave Mattes and Jacob Plank. Special guest instructor is Larry Koretz, former professional player and LaSalle University standout.


Proceeds benefit the Wyoming Area girls basketball team. To sign up, mail registration fee to Wyoming Area Girls Basketball, c/o Ann Mazzatelli, 29 E. Sixth St., Wyoming, PA 18644. Registration may also be taken to the gym on the first day of camp.


Leonard Golf Tourney


is set for Saturday


The Albert and Paul Leonard Golf Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 26 at Pine Hill Country Club in Taylor.


The fee is $80 per person which includes greens fees, cart fees, refreshments on the course, prizes, a banquet after the tournament and a chance to win a 32 inch flat screen TV and a 2014 Ken Pollock Nissan for a hole-in-one. For more information, call Jim at 570-466-9991.

St. Monica’s golf


tourney is Aug. 24


The St. Monica Parish Second Annual Golf Outing, which benefits projects of the Parish’s Christian Society, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Four Seasons Golf Club in Exeter.


Registration is at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per person or $200 for a foursome. Refreshments will be provided on the course with prizes and a dinner afterwards.

Basketball camp cancelled


Mark Casper’s basketball camp at Wyoming Area Catholic has been cancelled due to the replacement of the gym floor at WAC. The camp was scheduled to be held Aug. 4 to 7.


Black Shamrock Open


set for Aug. 9


The Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick will be hosting their annual Black Shamrock Open on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Course. The format of the tournament is Captain and Crew and entry fee is $80 per golfer.


The event will tee off at 1:30 p.m. with refreshments at the course, and a buffet meal following the tournament at the golf course. Anyone that would like to register to participate or is interested in more information please contact President Lee Monteforte at 570-954-5450 or any active member of the G.P. Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Registration should be completed as soon as possible.


The tournament committee meets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the K of C in Pittston.

Friendly Sons member Bob Calpin will be on hand with golf tips at the start of the tournament.


Last year, the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick awarded scholarships to two students totaling $5,000 and the proceeds from this event will benefit the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Scholarship Program.

The WA Football Alumni Association is planning its annual Warrior Pride Camp/Golf tourney for the weekend of July 25 and 26. Children ages 6-14 are encouraged to participate. The non-contact, skills-based camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon.


The WA Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 26 at Four Seasons Golf Course in Exeter. Information on this tourney can be obtained by emailing Lou Ciampi, r. at Lou2@independentgraphics.com. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.


The 2014 Class of the Ring of Pride will be honored at halftime of the Wallenpaupack game on Oct. 24 at Jake Sobeski Stadium. Members of this year’s class of the Ring of Pride are Jim Carmody, Jamie Kudrako, Jeff Hague, Scott Schalles and Fred Marrianacci.


The 1984 championship team, led by Leo Malsky and Jeff Hague, will also be honored that night.


Pittston Area Football


booster club meeting


Pittston Area Patriots Football Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22 in the Cefalo Center. Topics of discussion will be Media Day, Doubles and food for doubles.


The club is also looking for parents to help with Media Day. A date and time to clean the stand will be discussed. Booster Buck sales are going on now. The club will be at the stand from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday so the klayers can cash in there Booster Bucks and also purchase clothing. sponsors for program book should be turned in by Sunday, July 27.

American Legion Post 585, Duryea is having a Fun Day at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 to the SWB Railriders Game at PNC Field. All regular members of the Post will be admitted free while all others will be charged $12. Call 570-457-4242. No transportation is provided.


WA, PA inaugural


run is August 30


The graduating classes of 1989 from Pittston Area and Wyoming Area will hold the inaugural “Rivalry Run” on Saturday, Aug. 30. The charity run/walk event will benefit the Jamie Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Warrior Pride Scholarship Fund, offering schools from both sides of the river an opportunity to come together in support of current and future alumni with much-needed scholarship funds.


The 5k will begin at Pittston Area High School and end with a lap around Anthony Sobeski Stadium at Wyoming Area.


The top male and female runners will receive a trophy. Cost is $15 prior to Aug. 15, $20 on race day. The first 200 participants will receive a T-shirt. Donations and pledges for the two scholarships can also be made.

Proceeds benefit the AOH Scholarship Fund & Local Charitable causes supported by the Avoca AOH.
