Heights-Murray Elementary School held its ninth annual spelling bee in January. The competition included a list of words for the fifth- and sixth-grade students to spell. Thirty-two students participated. The winner advances to the Times Leader/Scripps spelling bee at the Woodlands Inn and Resort. Winners, from left: Justin Carson, second place, fifth grade; Brent Shurmanek, third place, fifth grade; Emily Engle, first place, fifth grade; Chloe Sromovski, first place, overall and first place, sixth grade; Lillian Paisley, second place, sixth grade; and Catherine McAtee, third place, sixth grade.
