They were on a collision course.

Both Pittston Area and Wyoming Area were playing some of the best softball in the Wyoming Valley Conference - using small ball - when the two teams met each other on the diamond Monday afternoon.

Wyoming Area turned up the bats, however, and prevailed in a 13-0, 5-inning win over the Patriots.

The Warriors were treated to a 3-for-4 performance from Emily Wolfgang, who added a triple and a home run. Nicole Cumbo was virtually unhittable in the circle, surrendering just one hit in her shutout. She also struck out seven Patriots hitters.

Wyoming Area scored three runs in each of the first four inning to enforce the 10-run rule. Eight players for the Warriors had a hit in the game. Nicole Turner had a pair of singles, while Cumbo added a triple.
