State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich recognized Janine Strauch of Factoryville the recipient of a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship on Thursday.

Strauch is a student at Lackawanna Trail Junior/Senior High School. She will receive a four-year scholarship at the tuition level equivalent to one semester at a State System of Higher Education School, $3,000 per year.

“I’m proud to congratulate Janine on earning the Pennsylvania House Scholarship. This is a great accomplishment and is just one of the many demonstrations of her success. I wish her the very best in the next stage of her academic career,” Kavulich said, according to a press release.

Graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents are eligible to apply for the scholarship if they plan to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade-point average in high school and must demonstrate a commitment to community, leadership, extracurricular activities and financial need.

The scholarship program is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities at no cost to state taxpayers.
