WILKES-BARRE — The public will be able to purchase fresh produce from Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Wednesday.
The medical facility will hold its Get Fresh Market 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday on the Food Service Patio outside the cafeteria. The market, to be held monthly, will feature fresh produce, such as locally grown asparagus, spaghetti squash, tomatoes, corn and other fruits and vegetables.
The produce in the market will be provided by Pocono Produce.
The event will also feature a cooking demonstration at 11:30 a.m., as well as a central theme. Geisinger spokesman Matthew Van Stone said the theme for this week is strawberries.
Dietitians will also be on hand to answer questions about eating healthy goods, along with agriculturalists to provide information on the importance of growing sustainable food.
“It’s similar to what you see elsewhere in the area at this time of the year,” said Van Stone. He added this is the second year the market is being held at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
“Last year, it was done on just one day, but because of the success of the event, we made it a monthly occasion this year,” he said.
