WILKES-BARRE — The state Department of Environmental Protection notified Leo A. Glodzik III of violations concerning the abandoned railroad bridge he owns over the Susquehanna River between Duryea and Exeter.

In an April 7 letter to Glodzik, DEP said the bridge is in “imminent danger of collapse” and would create an obstruction in the river. The agency said he should either remove the structure or repair it to make it structurally sound. Glodzik was given 10 days after receiving the letter to respond in writing of his plans or face enforcement actions.

Last year, Luzerne County included the demolition of the bridge on a $10 million in flood recovery project list.

DEP spokeswoman Colleen Connolly said Glodzik was notified because he is the owner of record of the bridge. She said DEP has had discussions with the county about the structure.
