Leslie Lopez and Abbigail Borum were the recipients of the Ray Sunday Student of the Month Awards for September at GAR Memorial High School. Each month one senior high student and one junior high student are chosen for this mark of excellence. The award is in memory of Ray Sunday, an exceptional former teacher at GAR, who dedicated his life to the future of his students. In order to achieve this honor, students must exhibit one or more of the six pillars of character, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring or citizenship. Lopez was the junior high recipient and Borum was the senior high recipient.

Sarah Dunsmuir, formerly of Plains Township, and the daughter of Ann Cease, Wilkes-Barre, has been inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Dunsmuir is a junior majoring in business at the University of Cincinnati.

Bryant Morocho, Wilkes-Barre; Kathryn Margavage, Edwardsville; and Michael Yuhas, Duryea, students at Wilkes University, recently presented their summer research at Plant Biology 2013, the annual meeting of the American Society of Plant Biologists. Students presented their work during a special undergraduate session and at three sessions open to all 1,500 conference participants. William Terzaghi, professor of biology, led the students’ research.

Michael Kaschak, an associate professor in Florida State University’s Department of Psychology, has been elected a fellow of the Association of Psychological Science, the largest international organization of researchers in the field of psychological research. Kaschak also received an Outstanding Young Investigator Award from the Psychonomic Society, a major organization devoted to experimental cognitive psychology. Kaschak is the son of David and Camille Kaschak, Kingston. He graduated from Wyoming Valley West High School and Wilkes University and earned his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Kaschak and his wife, Maureen, have two children, Meghan and Michael. They reside in Tallahassee, Fla.
