Robert S. Norton and Betty J. Norton, Wilkes-Barre, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 24, 2013. They were married on Aug. 24, 1963, at Firwood United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre. The ceremony was performed by the late Rev. Roy T. Henwood.

Mrs. Norton is the former Betty Jean McCarrick, daughter of the late John F. and Ida McCarrick, Wilkes-Barre. Mr. Norton is the son of the late John S. and Helen L. Norton, Wilkes-Barre.

Mrs. Norton was escorted down the aisle by her father. Her maid of honor was her cousin, Barbara McVeigh

Stachowiak. Bridesmaids were Carol Norton, sister of the groom, and Shirley Landmesser. Flower girl was Debra Lear Lawrence.

Best man was the late John W. Norton, brother of the groom. Ushers were the late John McVeigh and the late John Shock. Ring bearer was Jeff Miller.

Mrs. Norton was employed by the First Eastern Bank (now PNC), Wilkes-Barre, retiring after 35 years of service. Mr. Norton was employed by the United Parcel Service, Dupont, retiring after 43 years of service.

They are the parents of two children, Dr. Kimberly Norton Kurland, D.O., and her husband, Dr. Thomas Kurland, D.O. York, Pa., and Robert S. Norton Jr., Nanticoke, Pa.

They have three grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Emily and Madison Kurland.

A family celebration is planned.
