(AP) Hong Kong plans to restrict the amount of baby formula that people can take out of the city as anger grows at mainland Chinese traders buying up formula for resale back home.

Government officials said Friday that they would amend legislation to prohibit individuals from taking more than 1.8 kilograms of formula past Hong Kong’s borders. The amount is equal to two cans of formula.

Demand from mainland Chinese for formula from Hong Kong has risen in recent years following a series of tainted formula scandals.

Hong Kong is a popular shopping destination for mainland Chinese because it has no sales tax and a reputation for quality goods.
