Wyoming Area shook off a rough start to take a 3-5 record into this weekend’s action.

A game-by-game look back at the season:

Scranton Prep 35, Wyoming Area 7

The defending District 2 Class AA champions opened on the road on a Saturday afternoon against what has turned into the top team in the big school division of the Lackawanna Football Conference, the unbeaten Cavaliers.

The Warriors defense put together a strong effort, but Scranton Prep put the game into the Mercy Rule by the end of the third quarter by returning two interceptions for touchdowns and recovering a blocked punt in the end zone.

Mid Valley 29, Wyoming Area 14

Mid Valley spoiled Wyoming Area’s home opener when the Warriors offense shut down after producing a score on the first possession.

The Warriors appeared to have gotten to the 1 early in the fourth quarter while trying to rally from a 22-14 deficit. A holding penalty, however, spoiled that chance and Wyoming Area wound up missing a field goal. Josh Gorton went 71 yards for the game-breaking touchdown on the next play.

Lake-Lehman 54, Wyoming Area 7

Lake-Lehman, which ultimately replaced Wyoming Area as Wyoming Valley Conference Class AA-A Division champion, came into Jake Sobeski Stadium intent on avenging a 49-14 loss in last year’s District 2 Class AA semifinals.

The Black Knights got their revenge when Dustin Jones ran for three first-half touchdowns and broke into the Wyoming Area backfield three times to force losses on the way to a 35-0 lead at the half. Wyoming Area did not break the shutout until the final minute.

Wyoming Area 20, Hanover Area 12

Ryan Murray and Farrad Condry made sure the Warriors made the most of four Hanover Area turnovers while posting their first win of the season on the road.

Murray recovered a fumble to set up the first Wyoming Area touchdown, scored the second on a pass reception and made an interception to stop a Hanover Area scoring threat. Condry caught a pass for the first touchdown and intercepted a pass to stop the last Hawkeyes drive.

Nanticoke 14, Wyoming Area 7

After helping Wyoming Area pick up its first win a week earlier, turnovers kept the Warriors from building momentum when they returned home a week later.

The Warriors had a fourth-quarter comeback going when they reached the Nanticoke 10 with a little more than a minute remaining, only to fumble the ball away. The Trojans had already broken a scoreless tie in the third quarter on a 69-yard Kyle Gavrish interception return. Wyoming Area dominated statistically, leading in first downs (14-6), passing yards (134-31), offensive plays (71-40), total offense (252-109) and time of possession (31:25-16:35).

Wyoming Area 42, Holy Redeemer 28

Jeff Skursky re-emerged as the focal point of the Wyoming Area offense after missing the Hanover Area game with a concussion and carrying less in the next game and a half. After scoring 55 points in the first 5 ½ games, the Warriors scored 42 in the second half against the Royals.

Skursky moved from fullback to tailback and began running a series of blasts and powers that have marked the second half of the Warriors season. Skursky ran 24 times for 272 yards and scored 34 points in the second half on five touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions to rally the Warriors from a 12-0 deficit.

Wyoming Area 14, Meyers 8

The Wyoming Area defense did not allow a score but the Warriors found themselves facing an 8-7 deficit with seven minutes left when Raheem Twyman returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown.

Wyoming Area converted a third-and-five and a fourth-and-one situation on a game-winning, 70-yard drive. Jeff Skursky, who finished with 171 yards and both touchdowns on 40 carries, ran it from the 3 with 35 seconds left for the winning score.

GAR 35, Wyoming Area 34

The Warriors again found themselves needing three yards in the final minute to pull out a win.

After running for his fourth touchdown as part of a night in which he carried 41 times for 202 yards, Skursky was unable to push the ball in on a 2-point conversion attempt with 32 seconds remaining. GAR made the most of big plays, scoring touchdowns from 57, 48, 63 and 37 yards on the way to a 28-21 halftime lead.
