HAZLETON - A 19-year-old city man died after he was gunned down with another man on West Maple Street early Saturday night.
Angel Villalobos was struck multiple times, said acting Luzerne County Coroner Bill Lisman.
He was pronounced dead within minutes after being transported by ambulance to Hazleton General Hospital.
The other shooting victim, a 24-year-old man, was taken to Hazleton General and then to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township. He was later released.
Police did not release his name and kept tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation. District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis also declined comment.
The two men were shot around 7:14 p.m. in the 500 block of West Maple.
The city fire department was called to the scene around 8 p.m. to provide lighting for investigators. Members of the state police forensic unit assisted city police at the crime scene. Detectives from the District Attorney’s Office also are working the case.
Lisman said Villalobos was admitted to Hazleton General at 7:42 p.m. and was pronounced dead seven minutes later.
An autopsy done Sunday afternoon by Dr. Gary Ross at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital determined Villalobos died from multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators are requesting anyone with information about the shootings to call Luzerne County 911 and ask to speak with a Hazleton police officer.
