District news

An Act 80 will be observed on Thursday, Oct. 31. Students will be dismissed as follows: High school, noon; middle school, 12:30 p.m.; Intermediate and Primary Center 1 p.m.

Middle school

Middle school pictures will be taken on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Student Council updates: Cookie dough fundraiser order forms will be due no later than Tuesday. Orders will be delivered on Nov. 21.

Builders Club: The First Builders Club meeting will be held from 3-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in Ms. Beseda’s and Mr. Struckus’ rooms. Students are responsible for their own transportation home and all rides must be in front of the middle school no later than 3:30 p.m.

The first middle school Science Club meeting will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 3-3:45 p.m. Students are responsible for their own transportation home, and all rides must be in front of the middle school no later than 3:40 p.m.

The entire Middle School will be Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF again this year. The collection boxes will be passed out to students on Wednesday, Oct. 30. This year the building will be featured in the National/International Kiwanis bulletin for the schools dedication on connecting this community service project to current Pennsylvania Common Core Writing, Reading, and Social Studies Standards and Anchors. Students may return them to Mrs. Martin or Mr. Struckus between Nov. 1 and Nov. 7.

The Pittston Area School District will be offering physicals for any 7th or 8th grade student interested in participating in a winter sport on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 9 a.m. These sports include 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball and junior high wrestling. Students are reminded that if they have already participated in a sport during this school year’s fall season, they only need to re-certify their eligibility. Only students participating in a sport for the first time this year will need to take the full comprehensive physical examination. Forms can be obtained on the District’s website or from Mr. Lopresto.

Intermediate Center

Spirit Week activities: The IC will show its chool spirit this week. Monday is Twin Day, Tuesday is Crazy Hat and/or Crazy Sock Day, Wednesday is Team Shirt or Jersey Day, Thursday is Halloween and Friday is Spirit Day (red, white and blue colors).

The PTO will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

There will be NO parade this year at the IC; however, all students are encouraged to dress up in their costumes. No weapons of any kind are allowed. Activities will take place during the day in the classrooms.

Any student involved in the talent show is reminded that practices arefrom 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays (except Oct. 31) n the Middle School Cafeteria. Transportation arrangements are to be made prior to each practice.
