Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for the third straight week and fourth time this season after leading the Royals to the title in the PNC Bank Royal Rumble last week in the Long Center.
He has now been named conference Player of the Week nine times in barely more than two years.
In an 80-66 opening-round win over Rosemont on Monday, Dec. 16, Danzig finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block in 33 minutes. He finished 7-for-11 from the field and made both of his free throw attempts.
In the victory, Danzig also went over the 1,000-point milestone, becoming the 40th player in University of Scranton men’s basketball history to achieve that feat.
Less than 24 hours later, Danzig poured in a career-high 34 points to lead the Royals (7-2) to a 79-73 victory over Muhlenberg in the championship game. He scored 17 points in each half while finishing 10-for-16 from the field and 10-for-10 from the line. He hit four of six 3-pointers, including three late in the second half that put the Mules away.
In nine games this season, Danzig is averaging 23.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. He’s shooting 60.3 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from 3-point range and 82.3 percent from the free throw line.
Danzig and the Royals are back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 31, when they face Keystone at 6 p.m. at the Lackawanna College Student Union in Scranton as part of a Coaches vs. Cancer tripleheader. The event also features high school games at 2 and 4 p.m.
