PennDOT employees participate in Holiday Wish Program

December 26, 2013

As Christmas approached this year, PennDOT District 4-0 employees participated in the Holiday Wish Program. The program sponsors a family through (SLHDA) Lackawanna Human Development Agency Head Start Program. They sponsor a family in the Scranton Area.

The idea came about when a group of employees, headed by John Pivovarnik a squad leader from the Roadway Department formed a committee and decided to adopt the family from the Lackawanna Human Development Agency Head Start Program. John’s wife Stephanie worked for Lackawanna Human Development Agency told him about the program.

Pivovarnik was surprised by all the gifts that were donated and amount of money that was collected on such short notice.

“The District really made this families Christmas with the wonderful gifts that we were able to get them,” said Pivovarnik. But more important we gave them hope for the future.”

The committee encouraged everyone to participate in the program and they would be acknowledged by placing an ornament with their name on the District Office Christmas tree. They also decided to have a friendly competition between design, maintenance and construction to see what department would have more employees participating in the program. The winner of the completion will place a star with their Division’s Name on top of the tree.
