The local engineering consulting firm recently announced that three employees earned their Professional Engineer licenses.

Boris
Mark Boris received his bachelor’s degree in structural design and construction engineering from Penn State University. The Mountain Top resident is the highway group director in the Transportation Division of the company.
Patrick Walko is a graduate of Wilkes University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. The Old Forge resident is a project manager in the Facilities Engineering Division.
Todd Baldwin earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Lafayette College. The Whitehall resident works as a civil engineer in the Land Development Group at the Borton-Lawson Lehigh Valley Office in Bethlehem.
Mary Pat Appel, horticulturist and ISA certified arborist, has recently been hired by the Meshoppen company as a consulting arborist. Appel will add services such as tree diagnostics, integrated pest management programs and plant selection advice for the landscape and storm water retention basins.
In 2007, Appel was awarded the Watershed Stewardship Award from the Luzerne Conservation District in addition to being the recipient of the Search for Excellence Award from Penn State for her program participation in the “Think Before You Top” tree campaign.
Blaise Alan Dente, “Al Dente” as he is known to friends, recently received the 2008 American Culinary Federation, Professional Chefs of Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter “Chef of the Year” award.
Dente is a member of the executive board of the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce; both the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre Chambers of Commerce; POWER (Professionals Organized and Working to Enrich the Region); and Historian and Communications Chair of the American Culinary Federation, Professional Chefs of NEPA.
PHOENIX Rehabilitation and Health Services, Inc., Kingston and Wilkes-Barre, operator of outpatient physical therapy clinics throughout Pennsylvania, was recently distinguished as the 37th best place to work in Pennsylvania for 2008.
The Best Places to Work in PA list is made up of 100 companies split into two groups: medium-sized companies (25-250 employees) and large-sized companies (251 or more employees). PHOENIX falls into the medium-sized category of The Best Places to Work in PA. The award is based on the company’s policies, procedures and demographics as well as information obtained from employee surveys.
Jacqueline Stewart, RN, MSN, CEN, CCRN, Wilkes University assistant professor, was recently named a 2008 inductee to the Academy of Emergency Nursing by the Emergency Nurses Association. AEN fellowship recognizes emergency nurses for their contributions to patient care in and out of the emergency department.
