June Drewry was recently appointed to the board of the company that is headquartered in Scranton. Drewry has extensive international experience in the information technology field of the insurance and financial services industry. Drewry holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a business minor from Caldwell College for Women. She has earned several awards throughout her career for innovative business use of technology and leadership in information technology. She is the executive coach at Treeline Consulting, working to develop senior IT leaders and also serves as a director of the Society for Information Management’s Leadership Development Institute.

Dave Shimshock was recently named community banking district manager for the bank’s Wilkes-Barre market. Shimshock, who is based in Kingston, has been with Wachovia for 22 years and most recently served as financial services leader in the Wilkes-Barre market.
Jeffrey M. Helsel was recently named plant manager at the Berwick facility. He will be responsible for operations, maintenance, work management, support programs and training for the two-unit nuclear facility. Helsel has nearly 30 years of experience at the plant and has held the positions of manager of Nuclear Training, Nuclear Operations manager, among others. He holds an associate’s degree in nuclear engineering technology from The Pennsylvania State University and is currently completing a bachelor’s degree in nuclear technology at Excelsior College. He has also maintained an active Nuclear Regulatory Commission operator license for 20 years.
The local bank recently hired two Mountain Top residents for its Mountain Top branch that will open in the fall of 2009.
Beverly Fisher-Cruikshank is assistant vice president, community office manager. The Crestwood High School and Luzerne County Community College graduate has more than 38 years of banking experience.
Laurie J. Nudo is the customer service officer. The Crestwood High School graduate brings 23 years of banking experience to her new position.
Atty. Bart E. Ecker, of Laputka, Bayless, Ecker & Cohn, P.C., Hazleton, was recently selected as one of Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers in the field of workers’ compensation. The selection was made by other Pennsylvania attorneys, who were asked to name the best lawyers they have personally observed in action.
The Keystone Job Corps Center, Drums, was recently recognized by The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce for 45 years of providing quality education, community and economic development for the Greater Hazleton area.
The Association of Fund Raising Professionals Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter recently announced the recipients of its 2009 National Philanthropy Day Awards. They are: Pride Mobility Products, outstanding corporation; The Luzerne Foundation, outstanding foundation; Sue and Joe Hand and family, outstanding philanthropists; Letha Wells Reinheimer, outstanding volunteer; Sue Helwig, outstanding fundraising executive; and Jane E. Oppenheim, lifetime achievement.
Pennsylvania American Water, Huntsville Water Treatment Plant, recently received the Director’s Award of Recognition from the Partnership for Safe Water, a national volunteer initiative developed by EPA and other water organizations representing water suppliers striving to provide their communities with drinking water quality that surpasses the required federal standards. The company was recognized for successfully completing the self assessment and peer review phase of the Partnership program.
