WILKES-BARRE – Insecure about your securities? Uneasy about your investments?
A free forum by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority next week might be of interest.
The authority, also known by the acronym FINRA, is the private-sector regulator of the U.S. securities industry.
The forum will cover current issues in the financial services industry and aims to enable people to make informed decisions when investing.
FINRA’s chief executive officer, Mary Schapiro, will be one of the presenters at the forum at the Genetti Hotel & Convention Center.
“Investors need to be armed with the best information possible when making an investment decision and the best weapon for investors in education,” Schapiro said in a prepared statement announcing the forum.
Joining Schapiro will be U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke. The congressman is chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government Sponsored Enterprises.
Kanjorski will talk about economic issues and legislation that affects the financial services industry.
In a prepared statement, the congressman said he is working to pass legislation already approved by the subcommittee to provide additional protection to investors.
“Nevertheless, individuals must also educate themselves on their investment options,” he said.
The forum includes a complimentary buffet lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. The program follows and will end at 1:30 p.m. Space is limited and registration is encouraged.
Where: Genetti Hotel & Convention Center, Grand Ballroom, 77 E. Market St., Wilkes-Barre
When: Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
