SCRANTON – Mount Airy Casino Resort has filed a federal lawsuit against a Las Vegas firm it claims has caused it to lose more than $5 million in profits due to problems with systems that track and analyze gamblers’ betting.
The suit, filed Friday in federal court in Scranton, says TR-Biz LLC, trading as Tech Results, falsely promised Mount Airy executives that wagering analysis systems it marketed could integrate with the casino’s computerized management system.
The systems, installed when the casino opened last year, have had only marginal functionality, forcing the casino to manually collect information to evaluate the type of incentives its bettors have earned, the suit claims.
According to the suit:
Mount Airy paid $496,220 to Tech Results to purchase three systems that, together, would allow the casino to collect patron information, including betting habits and demographic information that could be utilized to target specific patrons with various promotional offers.
In order to function, the systems had to integrate with the casino’s information management system, which collects information on playing activity through the patrons’ use of players club cards that are inserted into a machine prior to play.
The suit says the Tech Results systems have been unable to fully integrate with the information management system. Casino executives have repeatedly complained to the firm that the system does not work properly, but it has failed to fix the problem.
The suit says Mount Airy has lost more than $5 million in profits because it was unable to conduct numerous promotional activities. It seeks unspecified damages from Tech Results based on several counts, including breach of contract and fraud.
Officials from Tech Results could not be reached for comment.
