Commonwealth Health will conduct its sixth annual Mammothon from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12 in conjunction with the system-wide observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Volunteers from the six hospitals and related clinics will make calls to women who are past due for their annual mammograms, offering to schedule these critical screenings or to give a gentle reminder about the importance of yearly mammograms.Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is hosting an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 10, at the Women’s Imaging Center at Thomas P. Saxton Medical Pavilion, Northampton Street, Kingston. The public is invited to tour the imaging center and professionals will be on hand to answer questions about mammograms. Last year, 131 volunteers made 5,164 calls to women, scheduling 781 mammograms or more than 135 percent of the system-wide goal of 577. Participating volunteers are from Berwick Hospital Center, Moses Taylor Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton, Tyler Memorial Hospital and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the Diagnostic Imaging Center.
