LUZERNE COUNTY: The Apprise Program, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging, is seeking volunteers to train in assisting area elders.

Volunteer counselors participate in an extensive training program and can assist with presentations at various organizations and health fairs and a variety of other tasks.

LUZERNE: The Misericordia University Department of Occupational Therapy will hold a series 10 free fall prevention workshops on select Fridays beginning in September for adults age 65 and older at The Hope Center, 205 Main St., Luzerne.

The morning and afternoon programs takes place in observation of the 10th annual Fall Prevention Awareness Day and ends Dec. 1. To register, contact Debbie Carey, fieldwork specialist, at 570-674-6481.

Eligible participants will learn to identify ways to prevent falls in the home and in the community. They will also complete an individualized exercise program to build strength, balance and confidence. Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in vision, balance and blood pressure screenings.

The fall prevention program is open to people 65 years or older who are living independently within the community. Sessions are on Nov. 17 and Dec. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES: Vouchers for the Senior Farmers Market Voucher Program can be redeemed for eligible senior until Nov. 30.

The vouchers can be used for locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at participating Dept. of Agriculture’s SFMNP farmers market stands. Baked goods, meat, jam, honey, apple cider or eggs are excluded.

You must be at least 60- or turn 60- before Dec. 31, 2017, reside in Luzerne or Wyoming counties and meet the 2017 household total income requirements of $22,311 for one person; $30,044 for two people. One set of vouchers ($20) per senior, per year. ID showing birth date and address required.

Nursing home, convent or assisted living residents where meals are provided do not qualify.

MOUNTAIN TOP: Mountain Top Social Club will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 24 in St.Paul’s Lutheran Church, Route 309, Mountain Top. Bus trips are planned for Dutch Apple dinner and show Oct. 19, Hollywood Casino on Oct. 26, Hunterdon Playhouse in New Jersey on Nov. 9 for dinner and a Christmas show The bus leaves Mountain Top at 8:15 a.m. and St. Aloysius Church in Wilkes-Barre at 8:45 a.m. for all trips. NANTICOKE: The Rose Tucker Active Adult Center is accepting deposits for trips. A trip to the American Music Theatre, Lancaster, for a Christmas show and smorgasbord dinner at Miller’s. The bus departs from the center 10 a.m., Nov. 15, and leaves Lancaster 5 p.m. Cost is $105 per person with a deposit due Oct. 2. No refunds after that date, unless seat can be filled. Seat will be assigned with final payment, due Nov. 6.

EXETER: Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Club are planning a trip to Sands Casino on Oct. 19. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for information. You do not have to be a club member to go on the trips.

Club membership is open to all men and women age 50 and over. Members do not have to be a resident of Exeter and the club welcomes men and women of all races and religious affiliation. Meetings are normally held on the first and third Tuesday of each month and include refreshments, bingo, and trips. Interested parties are invited to attend a meeting.

PLYMOUTH: The Senior Citizens’ Friendship Club of St. Mary’s Church/All Saints Parish in Plymouth will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 in the Holy Child School Building on Willow Street. Servers will be Pat Cole, Arlene Gritsko, Peg Hogan, Joe Kelly, and Agnes Hummel. This meeting will be a Halloween party. Members are urged to come in costume.

The club will sponsor a trip, Nov. 16, to Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Dinner Theater. $62 includes transportation, pastry and beverage upon arrival, vendors with a variety of holiday items including hand crafted items, jams, jellies, homemade bread, family style dinner, open bar from noon to 3 p.m; drawing for a holiday gift basket worth $100; and the show, “The Spirit of Christmas.” Seats are assigned with payment. At the previous meeting the nominating committee was chosen. Committee members are Josephine Kreitzer, Beverly Kutz, Diane Laibinis, Mary Larko and Joann Laskoski.

SWOYERSVILLE: The Swoyersville Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church social hall, 116 Hughes St., Kingston.

WILKES-BARRE: The St. Robert Bellarmine Seniors announced their Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 124 at Genetti’s Hotel. Trips were announced to Hollywood Casino on Oct. 26 and Nov. 16. Non-members are welcome on all trips. For information, call Otto Eime at 570-407-0056. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 25.
