DALLAS — All school retirees are invited to a Christmas luncheon at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at AppleTree Terrace, 4 Newberry Estates, N. Pioneer Ave., Dallas. The event is sponsored by the Luzerne/Wyoming County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Barbershop Quartet Sounds Abound will perform live. $20 includes a buffet dinner of ham, chicken francaise, crab cakes, pasta primavera, roasted potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower and more. FALLS — The Falls Active Adult Center, state Route 92, Exeter Township: Dec 11: Lunch & Learn at 12:15 p.m. with Frank Cawley MPT from Cawley Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. He will give a talk on “Low Back Pain – Causes and Ways to Treat Without Surgery.” Dec 12: Center will close at 11:00 for monthly meeting. Bag lunch available for pick up by 11 a.m. Dec 14: Mary Reeves from The Gardens in Tunkhannock will be joining us for a Christmas Surprise at 12:15 p.m. Dec 15: Mobile Food Bank; available to all age groups. Dec. 19: Candy making from 10 a.m. to noon; Jolly Seniors Christmas Singalong from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Dec 22: Birthday Celebration. Dec 26: Craft Club will be painting rocks that anyone may place at various locations throughout the area and whoever finds them will go onto the center Facebook page to say they were found and they may then relocate them to another area. Anyone wishing to join us for a meal at noon, for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and over or $5.07 for anyone under 60, should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

LUZERNE COUNTY — The Apprise Program, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging, is seeking volunteers to train in assisting area elders.

Volunteer counselors participate in an extensive training program and can assist with presentations at various organizations and health fairs and a variety of other tasks.

LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES — Volunteer Senior Peer Counselors are available to provide one-to-one support and socialization in the homes of those 60 years of age and older experiencing loneliness or minor emotional issues.

Volunteers, 55 and older, who drive and can devote up to three hours a week are needed to visit older adults with mild emotional issues in Luzerne and Wyoming counties.

PLYMOUTH — The Senior Citizens’ Friendship Club of St. Mary’s in Plymouth will have their next meeting at 1 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Holy Child School building on Willow Street, Plymouth. Servers will be Chris and Bill Hurst, Joann Laskoski, Diane Laibinis and Helen Karpovich. At this meeting, new Secret Pals will be chosen for the coming year. The Christmas party will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 at Touch of Class in Wilkes-Barre. New members are always welcome.

WILKES-BARRE — The St. Robert Bellarmine Seniors will hold their Christmas Party on Dec. 14 at Genetti’s Hotel in Wilkes-Barre. The club’s first meeting of 2018 will be held on Jan. 10. If anyone is interested in a joining for a pleasant, social afternoon, call club president Cathy Chernavage at 570-829-5639.

WEATHERLY — Heritage Hill Senior Community, 800 Sixth St., Weatherly, is accepting new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots between 1 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily now through mid-December. For information, call 570-427-4500.

WHITE HAVEN — The White Haven Senior Citizens will hold their annual Christmas Dinner at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at St. Patrick’s Center. Menu includes stuffed chicken breast and baked cod, scalloped potatoes, vegetables and more. Entertainment will be provided by Paul Romero. $12 for members, $23 for non-members includes gratuity and entertainment. For reservations, call Charlene Miller at 570-443-8526.
