25th Annual Gymanfa Ganu set for Nov. 8

The Ethnic Committee of Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church will conduct its 25th Annual Gymanfa Ganu at 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the church at Church and Main streets, Edwardsville. The Welsh festival of sacred songs in four-part harmony has Attorney Jay G. Williams, Clinton, N.Y., as this year’s director. Williams, a fifth generation Welsh-American, has been conducting Cymanfaoedd for many years along the East Coast. Highlights will include Barbara Futchel, West Nanticoke, on organ, and the Orpheus Choral Society of Wyoming Valley under the direction of Carol Anstett and Susan Lauer. A Te Bach (Welsh Tea) will follow in the Sunday School Room and offers homemade breads, cheese, jelly, and Welsh cookies. A free-will offering will be taken. For more information, contact Thomas Jones at 696-1708. Thomas Jones, Committee chairman, is shown with the Rev. Louis Falcone, pastor of the church, who will give the invocation and remarks.
