County’s Vietnam veterans to recall anniversary of memorial’s dedication

Luzerne County Vietnam Veterans will gather to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the dedication of the Luzerne County Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 20 at the bronze sculpture, which is located on the south lawn of the Luzerne County Courthouse, North River Street, Wilkes-Barre. The memorial was dedicated on Feb. 21, 1988, and built to honor the 1 1,000 men and women from Luzerne County who served in the Vietnam War, as well as the 83 residents that were killed in action and the seven soldiers declared prisoners of war or missing in action. Members of the original Luzerne County Memorial Committee in 1986, first row, are: Michael Balash, Air Force, Dallas; Thomas P. Wayslow, Air Force, Nanticoke; Edward Linskey, Navy, Pittston; Gloria Englehardt, Army, Korean War, Ashley; and the late Christopher Bradshaw, Army. Second row: retired Master Sgt. Neno Sartini, Air Force, Wilkes-Barre; Dennis Rossania, Marines, Duryea; Bernard J. Smith III, Marines, Harding; Donald Swartz, Navy, Wilkes-Barre; and the late Sgt. 1st Class John Englehardt, secretary, Army. Third row: treasurer Jack Kinney, Air Force, Wilkes-Barre; Richard P. Mooney, Airborne Division, Exeter; chairman Robert Tomasetti, Air Force, Duryea; and Albert Felker, Army, Harding. Absent: retired Army Col. Richard M. Goldberg, Wilkes-Barre.
