ASHLEY: The Ashley Neighborly Senior Citizens will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. today at the St. Leo/Holy Rosary Church hall. Hostesses will be Forti Galella and Helen Gorski. A Halloween luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Old Country Buffet, East End Centre Wilkes-Barre Township. Members will attend the Christmas show at the Music Box Dinner Theater and the annual Christmas party at the Ramada.

DUPONT: The Greater Pittston Area Chapter 1723 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Nomination of officers will be held at this meeting and in November. The November meeting will be the annual meeting with the election of officers. The installation of officers will be held at the December luncheon.

Margaret Pointek will discuss autism and Alzheimer’s disease and Regina McHale will speak on avoiding medication mistakes. Refreshments will be served.

EDWARDSVILLE: The Family Caregivers Support Group, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne-Wyoming Counties, will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday at the Edwardsville Senior Center on Russell Street.

Edwardsville fire chief Ray King will present a program on fire safety and smoke detectors. All caregivers and care-receivers are invited. Refreshments will be served.

EXETER: The Cosmopolitan Seniors will meet at 1 p.m. today in St. Cecelia’s Parish center. Vic Malinowski will preside. Hosts are Olga Costello, Evelyn Kleback, Tony Matreselva, Ann Mattei and Terri Mislan.

At a recent meeting, two new members, Mary Coleman and Ursula Burke, were introduced and welcomed. Plans were announced for an Octoberfest to be held on Oct. 21. Reservations are due Oct. 14. Door prize winners were Marie Cheskiewicz, Marcella Fountain, Johanna Malinowski, Mary Ann Markowski and Cheryl Pipher. The bingo jackpot was shared by Dolores Bubblo, Marcella Fountain, Ann Mattei and Frank Schall.

The following trips are planned:

• The bus for the Charlie Prose show at Turning Stone Casino on Wednesday will depart from St. Anthony’s parking lot at 8 a.m.

• Caesars in Atlantic City on Oct. 14 includes a $20 rebate and a food coupon.

• “Christmas in the Poconos” at Mount Haven on Dec. 14.

EXETER: The Exeter Senior Citizens Social Club will travel to Atlantic City on Oct. 23. The bus will depart at 10 a.m. Cost is $30 with a $20 rebate.

Only standby reservations are being accepted for the Nov. 8 trip to the American Theatre in Lancaster. The group will also attend the Andre Rieu concert on May 15 at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Township.

HANOVER TWP.: The Lee Park Senior Center, 140 Lee Park Ave., will offer the following activities in October:

• A special Columbus Day dinner will take place on Oct. 9.

• A representative from Pennsylvania Power and Light Co. will speak on energy efficiency from 10:45-11:30 a.m. on Oct. 15.

• October birthdays will be celebrated on Oct. 17.

• A special “Hug for Health” dinner will be held on Oct. 20.

• Caresite Pharmacy will present a program on stroke prevention on Oct. 28.

• A blood pressure and glucose screening will be held from 10:45-11:30 a.m. on Oct. 31.

• A special Halloween dinner will be served on Oct. 31. Prizes will be awarded for costumes.

The center will be closed on Oct. 13 in observance of Columbus Day.

KINGSTON: The Kingston Senior Citizen Center, 680 Wyoming Ave., will offer the following activities:

• Decoupage clay pots for the fall will be made at 10 a.m. today. Cost is $2.

• A computer class is scheduled from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

• A council meeting will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

• A special dinner for Columbus Day will take place on Thursday.

• A presentation by Caresite Pharmacy on “Preparing for Cough/Cold Season” will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

• The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute will give a presentation on breast cancer at 11 a.m. on Oct. 14.

• A special sandwich and salad bar lunch will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Oct 15. Reservations must be made in advance.

• The last computer class will take place from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.

• Wilkes University will host a health fair from 10 a.m.-noon on Oct. 16.

• The center will be closed on Monday in observance of Columbus Day.

PITTSTON: The Pittston Senior Center will offer the following activities:

• A representative from PNC bank will provide information on how bank funds are protected by the government at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

• A special Columbus Day dinner will be held at noon on Thursday. Reservations must be made by Wednesday by calling Connie or Hazel at the center at 655-5561. Donation is $1.

• A beginners knitting class will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Mondays.

• Entertainment books for 2009 are on sale at the center. Cost is $25.

• The center is seeking donations of 4-ply yarn for volunteers who crochet lap robes for homebound seniors during the holiday season. Contact Connie Andrews at 655-5561.

• A few seats are still available for a day trip to the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City on Nov. 6. Cost is $7. Meals are on your own.

• Reservations are now open for a day trip to Ace In The Hole Productions Christmas Show, “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree,” on Dec. 4. Cost is $70. Payment is required when reservation is made.

PLYMOUTH: Shawnee Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday at The First Welsh Baptist Church, Shawnee and Girard avenues. The executive board will meet at noon.

Jerry Flynn will preside at both meetings. Marie Brojakowski will speak about her trip to China.

PLYMOUTH: At a recent meeting of the Senior Citizen Friendship Club of St. Mary’s Church, members sang and the bell ringers played for members who celebrated birthdays in September. Fifty-fifty winners were Phyllis Warakomski, Bernadine Clark and Ruth Newberry. Helen Skoriva entertained the members by reading comical stories.

Upcoming events include:

• A trip to Hunterdon Hills is planned for Nov. 29. This will include a Christmas Show and Dinner. To attend call Ann at 779-3203.

• The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 7 at Konefal’s in Edwardsville.

• The next meeting will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday at Holy Child School building, Willow Street. Serving will be Mary Pietrzykoski, Leona Roskowski, Florence Rother, Phyllis Saluski, Ellen Saunders and Frank Schall.

WILKES-BARRE: The Father Nahas Senior Citizens Club will hold its regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. today in the church hall of St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 S. Main St. Future meetings will be held on Oct. 21 and Nov. 4. There will be no meetings on Nov. 18 and Dec. 18.

Members will attend the spaghetti supper at St. Mary’s on Nov. 29. The regular meeting will be held after the supper.

There will be a Christmas party at Kazimi’s on Dec. 4.

Hostesses for October are Candy Abraham, Marion Licata and Osma Lispi.

WILKES-BARRE TWP.: The RCA Retirees will meet at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Old Country Buffet, East End Centre.

A Christmas dinner will be held on Dec. 10 at Touch of Class at the Palace in Wilkes-Barre. Deposit is $5.

WILKES-BARRE: The St. Aloysius Senior Citizens will meet at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the cafeteria of the school on Barney Street.

Games will be played and refreshments served. New members are being accepted.

WILKES-BARRE TWP.: Wilkes-Barre Township Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the volunteer firehouse, preceded by bingo.

Plans will be discussed for the trip to the Music Box Dinner Theater and the Christmas party.

WYOMING: Fifty-fifty winners at a recent meeting of the Wyoming, West Wyoming Seniors were Genny Labaty, Ann Zagursky and Helen Nocek.

Plans for the Halloween social were completed and a special dinner will be served.

The annual Christmas dinner and party will be held Dec. 2. Members and guests are invited.

The next meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Hall. Bake chairperson Helen Markert selected the following to bake, Alice Daniels, Ann Kosloski and George Yurek. There will be a guest speaker at the meeting from Saunders and Rooney Law firm, Plymouth. The topic will be how to choose a Medicare supplement plan. Keith Saunders will do the presentation.
