St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church of Wilkes-Barre is celebrating the 105th anniversary of its founding. To commemorate this milestone, the parish will honor members who are 80 years of age and older at a breakfast-brunch following liturgy on Dec. 6 in the church hall, 905 S. Main St. Most of the honorees are descendents of the founders of St. Mary’s, which was consecrated in 1904 by Archimandrite Raphael Hawaweeney, bishop of Brooklyn, N.Y. It is the fifth Antiochian orthodox church to be established in the United States. Members of the planning committee who will be honored, first row, are Joseph Morrash and Bertha Molnar. Second row: Sylvia Morrash, John Morrash, Hal Morrash, Chester Chrzanowski, Ruth Chrzanowski, Mary Mamary, and Joseph Azain. Third row: Irene Tenneriello, Dan Norman, George Morrash, John Neddoff, Eleanor Saba, Loretta Skaff, and Sadie Barkovitz. Fourth row: the Very Rev. David Hester, pastor; Simon G. Saba, chairman; and Suanne Moses, parish council president.
