Dr. Marie Noel Keller, RSM, will discuss “Saint Paul: A Man of Grace and Grit” at a special program sponsored by the Back Mountain Ecumenical Ministerium at 6 p.m. Sunday at Dallas United Methodist Church. There will be a covered-dish supper at 5 p.m. Keller is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, has served as the executive director of the Institute on Sacred Scripture at Misericordia University for 28 years, is a staff member of Core Ministries (a Spiritual Life Resource of the Dallas region) and coordinator of Mercy Association in her area. Keller teaches seminars across the nation and is writing a book for a series on Paul the Apostle.

The Rev. Patrick Sullivan, C.S.C., coordinator of the Ethnic Community Outreach program at King’s College, has been appointed the executive secretary and chaplain of The Labor Guild by Cardinal Sean O’Malley. An ecumenical organization sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston, The Labor Guild is comprised of more than 1,300 labor relations arbitrators, educators, as well as corporation and union leaders who advocate healthy and productive employee relations. Sullivan will oversee the finances of the Guild, act as a liaison with other labor organizations and become a member of all Labor Guild board committees. An author, noted labor rights scholar and practitioner, Sullivan is also a member of the steering committee of the Catholic Scholars for Worker Justice and has been active locally in labor management issues.

Medical Mission Sister Mary Gavin, a Wilkes-Barre native, will celebrate her Golden Jubilee and a lifetime of accomplishments June 14 at a special Mass and reception in Philadelphia, the North American headquarters of her community. A former member of St. Patrick Parish, Gavin joined the Medical Mission Sisters after graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended Misericordia College and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. She made her First Profession of Vows in 1959. She earned her degree as a registered nurse at DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis. She has served at Holy Family Hospital, Dacca, Bangladesh, and as a supervisor in nurse-midwifery at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. She began a Contemplative Arts Ministry and teaches Chinese Brush Painting with Silent Sitting Meditation and T’ai Chi Moving Meditation. Gavin created note cards with her paintings, which she sells to help the worldwide mission of the Medical Mission Sisters. She also has learned and practices Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.
