Brewster
The Rev. Michael E. Brewster will be honored by the congregation of Mount Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill St., Wilkes-Barre, on Nov. 8 in celebration of his fifth anniversary as senior pastor. Brewster became the interim pastor for Mount Zion Baptist Church in 2003. He was selected and installed as the senior pastor on Nov. 14, 2004. He served in the United States Air Force National Guard for nine years in the field of public health, and is a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible. He is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree with PBU. Under his leadership a number of community programs have been established at Mt. Zion, including a Narcotics Anonymous group, a branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Zion Biblical Institute was created in January with assistance from the Steering Committee. Brewster is a graduate of the Leadership Wilkes-Barre Class of 2007, and serves on the Wilkes University Board of Trustees, the Luzerne County Diversity Commission and is a board member of the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. He is married to the former Stephanie Daughtry of Wilkes-Barre. They are the proud parents of twin 8-year-old sons, Kendall and Keagan.
Jennifer Haagenson of Nuangola will be the featured speaker at the Fall Women’s Retreat sponsored by the Pennsylvania Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists in Reading today and Sunday at Laurel Lake Camp. Haagenson will explore the dynamics of a marriage relationship with God during the weekend of spiritual renewal. Haagenson, a graduate of Southern Adventist University, and her husband the Rev. Troy Haagenson serve the three-church district of Slocum, Drums and Kingston. They are the parents of two children, Naathan, 2, and Sierra, 8 months old.
