Potbellied pigs may be put up for adoption soon
The 54 potbellied pigs that were rescued in the summer may soon be up for adoption.
Arc's efforts sail through NEPA
SCRANTON - The Arc of Northeastern Pennsylvania serves Lackawanna, Susquehanna, Wayne, Carbon, Monroe and Pike counties. It is the local branch of the largest national organization for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Meshoppen woman charged with animal cruelty
GLENBURN - Marla Burnham, the previous owner of 54 potbellied pigs that were confiscated by the Humane Society of Lackawanna County on July 28, was charged with four counts of animal cruelty after a trial before a District Magistrate on Friday, Nov. 21.
AAJRB awaits funding
CLARKS SUMMIT - Bill Risse, Chairman of the Abington Area Joint Recreation Board (AAJRB) said at a Nov. 20 meeting, “The funding request been distributed to all the municipalities.” Risse refers to annual funding in the amount of $46,260 requested from local municipalities to support the park.

A lifetime of service
WAVERLY- Marjorie Black was born on November 15, 1924 to David Black and Evelyn Whitbeck Davis. On Thursday, Nov. 6, she will be presented with the R. Matthew Burne Lifetime of Service Award for 2008 by The Abington Journal.
Carbondale shelter asking for help
CARBONDALE- In the past two weeks, “We had four major things go wrong: first our shelter dog died of cancer, then we lost our furnace, his (Jim Schaeffer’s) truck broke down and my TV blew up yesterday,” said Bonnie Schaeffer of Schaeffer’s Retreat Homeless Shelter in Carbondale during an October 15 interview.
