The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.

Happy Valley Sports Bar, 516 Storrs St., Dickson City, March 9. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed bottles of juice stored directly on the floor in secondary bar area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The items were moved during this inspection.

McDonald’s, 485 Daleville Highway, Covington Township, March 9. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Filetto’s Pizza, 201 N. Main St., Old Forge, March 10. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Working containers in kitchen area, used for storing cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the solution. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.

Milton Eisner Yeskiva High School, 930 Hickory St., Scranton, March 10. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

P&R Discount Foods, 600 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Archbald, Mar. 10. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Springhill Suites, 19 Radcliffe Drive, Moosic, March 10. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the kitchen area.

John J. Michaels V.F.W, 257 Daleville Highway, Covington Township, March 13. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: The thermometer is broken in the GE freezer drawer. As per the asst. manager, a thermometer will be purchased.

Julia’s Restaurant, 501 N. Main St., Old Forge, March 13. Regular inspection; in compliance.

A&A Pizza & Hoagies, 661 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Eynon, March 13. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Barrett’s Pub, 474 N. Main St., Archbald, March 16. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed an accumulation of grease underneath the cooking equipment in the kitchen.

Basilico’s Pizzeria, 608 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City, March 16. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employees observed in kitchen and front counter areas, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats.Temperature measuring devices for ensuring proper temperatures of equipment are not available or readily accessible in kitchen refrigerators. All temperatures were observed between 34-37 degrees F during this inspection. Mechanical ware-washing equipment had a lime buildup observed inside. Customer self-service single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched by customers. Observed an accumulation of debris under the pizza ovens.

Brazil Ristorante Italiano, 1101 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, March 16. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Convenient Food Mart #3029, 330 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, March 16. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Dickson City Stadium 14, 3909 Commerce Blvd., Dickson City, March 16. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair, observed leaking at the hand-wash sink in the bar area.

Akita Asian Cuisine Inc., 1061 Shoppes Blvd., Moosic, March 17, Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Glenburn Grill & Bakery, 1144 Lackawanna Trail, Clarks Summit, March 17. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation; Temperature measuring devices for ensuring proper temperatures of equipment are not available or readily accessible in the beverage reach-in refrigerator, bain marie in the prep area and outside walk-in cooler. Thermometers were placed in the units during this inspection. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof over the ware-wash sink area.

La Tonalteca Mexican Restaurant, 821 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, March 17. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employee personal use medicine observed on shelf above prep line. The medicine was moved during this inspection. Beef tenderloin observed thawing in standing water in a container in the food prep sink, which is not an approved thawing method. Instructed person in charge on proper thawing techniques during this inspection. Hood filters above grill and fryer areas have an accumulation of grease. Non-food contact surfaces, fan guards in the walk-in cooler, not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dust. Soap was not available at two of four hand-wash sinks in the kitchen area and the hand-wash sink at the bar. Soap was placed at the sinks during this inspection.

Simpson Food Market, 405 Main St., Simpson, March 17. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Benny’s of Peckville, 1216 N. Main Ave., Peckville, March 20. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Cousin’s Beer Stop, 202 Betty St., Eynon, March 20. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the reach-in cooler.

Kay’s Italian Restaurant, 894 Drinker Turnpike, Moscow, March 20. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Two bottles of purple liquid on the shelf above the pot wash sink are not labeled. The bottles were labeled. Buildup of debris on top of the ware-washing machine. The machine was cleaned. Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Fax a copy of the test results to the PA Dept. of Agriculture. The owner is faxing the report.

Moscow Elementary Center, 851 Church St., Moscow, March 20. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Sebastianelli’s Restaurant, 221 Scranton/Carbondale Highway, Eynon, March 20. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Raw chicken observed stored above ready-to-eat foods in reach-in refrigerator. Reviewed with the person in charge proper food storage for corrective action. Observed paint brush and paint supplies stored in the food storage area. Interior surface of equipment – chest freezer is cracked and repaired with materials unapproved for food equipment.
