NEW EXHIBITS

‘Back to the Beginning,’ an exhibit, celebrating the 50-year history of Luzerne County Communty College. Opening reception 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 29, Schulman Gallery on the campus in Nanticoke.

ONGOING EXHIBITS

The Recent Works of Yael Govseyeff Kahanov, features a collection of glass on copper sculpture, woodcut prints and engravings. Mainstreet Galleries, 370 Pierce St., Kingston. Open through Oct. 31. 570-287-5589.

“This Momentous and Tragic Day”: Hurricane Agnes at 45, open through December at the Luzerne County Historical Society Museum, 69 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. This exhibit looks back at the devastating flood that affected the lives of many Valley residents. Using photographs, documents and objects associated with the storm and its aftermath, the exhibittion explores what happened, how we recovered and asks, “Could it happen again?” Hours will be noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Rodin: Portraits of a Lifetime. Selections from the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Collections, on display Saturday through Dec. 9 in Pauly Friedman Gallery, Misericordia University. Open for viewing 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Pauly Friedman Art Gallery, Misericordia University Campus. 570-674-6250.

Alchemy, an exhibit featuring a series of fiber and ceramic works exploring the “vulnerability of the cloth, and the fragility of the clay” by guest artist Eva Polizzi at Circle Centre for the Arts, 130 Rear S Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Runs until Sept. 30. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday from noon until 4 p.m. 570-288-1020.

Call for Artists at Fall Art Expo, for the annual juried expo, coming Oct. 14-15 at the Forksville Fairgrounds, Rt. 154, Forksville. Artists can send photos of their work by mail or email. There is no fee for jurying, but there will be a $20 entry fee for up to three pieces upon acceptance. At least $1200 in cash prizes will be awarded.
