Prompton State Park, moderate 9 mile hike. Meet at the Park & Ride on Rt. 315 in Dupont at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 5 and leave at 10 a.m. Bring lunch and water. First Day of Eastern Standard Time. Leader John McFadden 570-267-8143. Sponsored by Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club.

Hiking The Nature Conservancy’s Goeringer Preserve, 9 a.m. Nov. 7, meet at entrance to Penn Lake at Hollenback Road, off Middleburg Road near White Haven. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water for this hike. Hike may be cancelled due to inclement weather. When in doubt, please call the Nescopeck State Park Office at 570-403-2006. Following the hike will be a pot-luck lunch at the park office; bring a dish to share.

FUTURE

Birding at Frances Slocum, a leisurely walk through Frances Slocum State Park in Kingston Township to seek out beautiful birds with Bruce Troy from Wild Birds Unlimited. The meeting point is the parking lot of the Environmental Education Center and boat rental. Participants should bring binoculars. 8:30 a.m. Nov. 11. Free to attend. Stoney Creek Hike, Lehigh Gorge. Difficult 8 mile hike. Meet at the Sears Auto Center, Wyoming Valley Mall at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 12 and leave at 10 a.m. Bring lunch and water. Hike includes small stream crossing. Leader Susan Eckhart 570- 283-1312. Sponsored by Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club.

Guided Hike at Hickory Run State Park: Hawk Falls and Orchard Trail, 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 19. Meet at Hawk Falls trailhead parking lot, about 4.5 miles west of park office on Route 534. The walk will be slow enough to observe wildlife. Please bring water and a snack, wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and register at events.dcnr.pa.gov or 570-443-0400.

Tubs Natural Area, moderate 5 + 3 mile hike. Meet at the Sears Auto Center, Wyoming Valley Mall at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 3 and leave at noon. Bring snack and water. We will all hike the first 5 miles. Wyoming Valley Levee. Easy 5 mile hike. Meet at Levee parking lot next to Midway Shopping Center (across from Swetland Homestead) on US Route 11 at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 31 and leave at 1 p.m. Sponsored by Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club.

A moderate, 9-mile hike will take place Nov. 5 in Prompton State Park.
