SWOYERSVILLE – One woman is dead following an early morning house fire in Swoyersville.
The Luzerne County Coroner told our newsgathering partners at Eyewitness News (WBRE/WYOU), that their office was called to the scene of the fire Sunday morning.
Swoyersville Fire Chief Marty Mahon told Eyewitness News that crews were called to the 30 block of Mountain Street for the report of a house fire at 7:25 a.m. and that crews arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire within 10-15 minutes.
While extinguishing the fire, Chief Mahon said they found the body of a woman living in the home at the time. First responders say she was home alone at the time and no one else was injured.
According to Eyewitness News, investigators believe the fire began in the back bedroom on the second floor.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and a state police fire marshal was called to investigate the blaze.
While there is water damage to the home, Chief Mahon said the home is not a total loss.
