Dozynki Harvest Festival isnext Sunday in Dupont

Plenty of activities taking place next Sunday, September 9, starting with the 31st Annual Harvest Festival/Dozynki sponsored by the Holy Mother of Sorrows PNCC, Wyoming Ave. It will be held on the church grounds from10:00 a.m. until dusk.

The blessing of the Harvest Wreath will be held at 2:00 p.m.

Live music will be preformed by Jow Lastovicz and the PolkaPunch from 3:00 p.m. To 6:00 p.m. They will have a variety of ethnic foods to include: pierogi, potato pancakes, golombki, haluski, kielbasa, sausage, soups, funnel cakes, as well as, the all American hot dogs and hamburgers. Home made baked good will be available.

Again this year they will have the Country Store featuring fresh fruits and vegetables. Other attractions are: 50/50 bingo, big raffle, Chinese auction, mini flea market, arts and crafts, quilts, children and youth stand. No admission fee, fun for all ages. Come and join us.

Polka Party

The 2007 Polka Sunday Dance will open its fall season next Sunday. Polka dancing will be held every Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with an admission fee of $12.00.

The September calendar will begin on Sunday, September 9 with Jude’s Polka Band with Joe Stanky & Cadets performing on September 16 and on September 23 Eddie Derwin & Polka Naturals take the stage.

The month will close with George Tarasek & Polka Partners on September 30.

Grand Openings

And finally after months of anticipation, Matka’s Bakery will celebrate its grand opening on Sunday, September 9. Located in the former Chrobak’s Variety Store on 288 Main Street, the celebration will begin at 8:00 a.m. until all sold out. More details on the grand opening will follow in next Sunday’s Dupont News.

July 16 was opening day for the newest business to grace downtown Dupont called “We’ve Got Game” a premier state of the art family entertainment complex. It is housed in the old Lincoln Theater building located at 312 Main Street. Hours of operation run 7 days a week from 12 noon to 12 midnight.

There is gaming for all ages with 8 regulation and 2 bar size pool tables, over 10 Internet Games featuring Call of Duty2 and W.O.W. plus 20 games for the X-box and WII. You will also find an old school style arcade room with 15 + machines.

A food court is also available with food and assorted beverages from DeFazio’s Caf�; Big Screen TV’s and coming soon N.F.L. Sunday ticket.

Council Meeting

Dupont Borough Council will hold an Executive Session at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, prior to the regular meeting of Council. The executive session will be held to discuss personnel and legal issues

Immediately after the executive session, the monthly meeting of Dupont Borough Council will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the James Cocco Council Chambers. Items to be discussed are the 2006 audit, discussion of the 2008 proposed budget and award bids for the 2008 refuse bags.

Legion Ladies

Ladies Auxiliary to Post 4909 will hold their monthly meeting at the post home on Tuesday evening September 4th at 7:00 p.m. District President Sharon Tilghman will make her visit and inspection at this meeting. Auxiliary President Theresa Prebish will preside.

All members are urged to attend. Hostesses for the meeting are: Evelyn Totaro and Rose Ann Skrzyowski.

Ziti Dinner

The Sacred Heart Holy Name Society will hold a Ziti Dinner on Saturday, September 15 in the church hall after the 4:00 p.m. Mass until 7:00 pm. Takeouts will be available at 3:00 p.m.

Tickets are $7.00 for adults and children under 12 $3.00 and may be purchased from any Holy Name members or by calling the rectory at 654-3713 during regular business hours.

Bus Trip

There is a bus trip on September 26 sponsored by the Christian Mothers of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church for a day of recollection to Villa of Our Lady of Mount Pocono Cost per person is $40.00.

Golf Tournament

Registrations are still being accepted for the First Fred P. Lokuta Memorial Golf Tournament at the Polish American Citizens Club, 111 Elm Street, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The tournament will be held on Saturday, September 29 at Wilkes Barre Municipal Golf Course. Price per golfer is $65.00 and includes: green fees, cart, continental breakfast and lunch.

Cash prizes include: longest drive and the “Packy Piechota” closest to the pin, plus Champions 1st, 2nd and 3rd Flight. The tournament will be Captain and the Crew 4 Man Scramble Format. Sponsor holes are still available at $25.00 for Silver, $50.00 for Gold and $100.00 for Platinum.

All proceeds benefit Dupont Borough religious and civic interests.

The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast followed by a Shot Gun Start at 9:00 a.m. Tee Assignments 1A and 18A are assigined as paid registrations are received. Starting at approximately at 2:30 p.m. lunch will be served at the Polish American Citizens Club.

Fund Drive

The Dupont Volunteer Hose Company annual fund drive is still underway and will continue until the end of September. Recently letters were sent to residents requesting financial help from the community. Your contribution will be used for the many needs of the hose company such as, ongoing education, maintenance of the fire truck and building, the purchase of much needed equipment. You can drop off your donations at the Hose Hall during regular business hours or at the Hub on Bear Creek Road. Tax Office

William Elko, Tax Collector, announces that the tax office will be open on Monday, Labor Day, September 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m.

Holy Name Society

The Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church will meet on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the church hall. All members are urged to attend. The upcoming Ziti Dinner will be discussed. Tickets returned should be made at this meeting.

The Senior Citizen’s Outreach of Sacred Heart will meet of Thursday, September 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the church hall. New members are always welcome.

The rectory office of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will be closed on Monday, September 3.
