BEAR CREEK TWP. – In what may be a literal example of “pay it forward,” Cee-Kay Auto Parts owner Robert Butts has given the Bear Creek Charter School a $500 grant to spur more kindness among students.
The school issued a press release announcing the “Kindness Program” grant from Cee-Kay, saying the money will help fund an effort that uses a different theme each month to encourage “caring, respect and pride” among students. The theme will be reflected in “various activities throughout the month, and will be used as a guide for recognizing and celebrating acts of kindness.”
The program was developed by the peer mediation team consisting of students in fifth through eighth grades. It will be coordinated by counselor Cindy Curry Ancharski.
The school is planning to acknowledge acts of kindness through a Wall of Caring on which photographs will be hung. Students will receive a memento to remind them of their good deed.
In keeping with the school’s frequent emphasis on the “community” in its name, Curry-Ancharski is quoted in the press release as saying, “We are excited about the opportunity this grant provides to motivate out students to continue to be positive role models not only in our school, but in our community.”
