WILKES-BARRE – A Plains Township man was killed Monday night after the all-terrain-vehicle he was driving struck the rear of a parked tractor-trailer on North Pennsylvania Avenue near East Chestnut Street.
Police said Douglas Lee Conahan, 21, was northbound on a 2008 Kawasaki when it left the travel area of the roadway around 8:37 p.m. and struck the tractor-trailer, which was parked on the east side of the road. The ATV caught fire after the crash.
Conahan, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:29 p.m., said Chief Deputy Coroner William Lisman.
Lisman said the cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries. No autopsy will be performed.
