Suspected illegal alien arrested

LAFLIN – A 23-year-old man suspected of being an illegal immigrant from Mexico was arrested Friday in connection to a burglary at a tile ceramic business in December.

Jose Lima, 23, who had no permanent address and resided in the Wilkes-Barre area, was arrested on burglary and theft charges, according to court records. He is accused of being an undocumented citizen while living in the U.S.

Lima was arrested for the alleged burglary at Passeri Granite Marble & Tire, 1600 Highway 315, in Wilkes Barre, according to the Laflin Police Department.

The case regarding his citizenship was subsequently referred to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for further investigation.

Court dockets revealed Lima had two traffic citations last year. Lima was cited in July for driving without a driver’s license in Laflin. Two months prior, he received a similar traffic citation in Kingston, for which two summons were issued, but were undeliverable.

Lima was arraigned before County Judge Diana Malast and was taken to Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $20,000 straight bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 25 at Central Court.
