U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, says his political action committee has paid a $900 penalty for a late filing.
The congressman’s Citizens for Action committee failed to file a 30-day post-general election report, which was due on Dec. 7, 2006. The Federal Election Commission notified the committee on Dec. 21, 2006.
“Never having gone through an election year process, Citizens for Action was unaware of the need for a post-general report and had planned only to file a year-end report,” said the 12-term Democrat from Nanticoke on Tuesday.
Kanjorski, who plans to seek re-election in 2008, said he set up the committee to increase the amount of assistance to his colleagues and other candidates he supports. The PAC was established in 2005.
The committee properly filed its 2005 year-end report with the FEC and three quarterly reports for 2006 for its activities through Sept. 30, 2006. The committee corrected the problem last year, Kanjorski said. The PAC filed the post-general report on Jan. 10, 2007.
“Because the failure to file had no bearing on any election activities and because there had never been any previous mistakes, in April of 2007, the FEC assessed a civil money penalty of $900, which the committee promptly paid,” the congressman said.
