Overtime owed to van drivers

The Luzerne/Wyoming County Transportation Department recently learned from a U.S. Department of Labor payroll review that 62 van drivers are owed a combined $31,733 in overtime back wages, according to county Chief Clerk/Manager Doug Pape.

The department does not receive general fund money.

Pape said payroll procedures have been improved to make sure the mistakes don’t happen again. He said the federal government concluded the overtime was not “willfully withheld.”

Some of the drivers no longer work for the county.
