Obama back in Scranton on Tuesday

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is making a return trip to Scranton on Tuesday.

An Obama campaign official confirmed the Illinois senator will visit the area as part of his “Road to Change” bus tour that is traveling throughout Pennsylvania.

Scranton Director of Public Safety Ray Hays said he doesn’t know where Obama will speak or at what time but said he received a preliminary notice Thursday that the candidate will be in Scranton on Tuesday.

Luzerne County Community College and Wilkes University have extended offers to all presidential candidates to hold rallies, but have not received a response from Obama, his Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton or presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain.

Misericordia University spokesman Jim Roberts said the three would be welcome to hold a political rally at the campus.

Luzerne County Sheriff Mike Savokinas said as of Thursday night his office was not contacted regarding a visit to Luzerne County from Obama.

This will be Obama’s second visit to Scranton. He spoke to the Society of Irish Women on March 17.

Obama’s Road to Change bus tour starts today in Pittsburgh.
